Special Winch Projects
Whilst Centrix has concentrated on land based wireline winches we have also built special purpose winches. The Water Corporation in Western Australia required a self contained unit that could deploy Optic Fibre Cable. Centrix staff were involved in both the original design and manufacture as well as an upgrade approximately five years later.

At the end of November 2008 Schlumberger ordered an umbilical reel for 750 metres of 41mm cable. The normal delivery date would have been 9 weeks, however the Schlumberger program required a delivery date of December 20. Centrix was able to design, manufacture, assemble and test the 3.5tonne compressed air drive reel in 23 days and in accordance with DNV standard 2.7-1.

Independence Group NL required an electric winch, fully fitted into a vehicle that was to be operated underground. The client required an electric winch that could operate from a battery system for a number of hours without recharging by running the vehicle.

Centrix was engaged to undertake an upgrade for a disused slickline unit for Schlumberger. We were required to design and manufacture a drum unit to replace one that had collapsed as well as to undertake a complete stripdown and service. |

Centrix was engaged to design and manufacture a unit that could be placed over a wireline to provide a readout of the length of cable that passes through the unit to an accuracy of +/- 1cm and rate readout in metres per minute. |

Centrix is equipped to de-spool old wire and spool new wire onto a client’s winch. Proper spooling is important to ensure a winch is operating efficiently and accordingly our processes are undertaken under the appropriate tension and the entire process is closely supervised. |
